Eco-Beauty: Friendly Soap Ltd.

As we all know, plastic is doing tremendous damage to our oceans and their health.

Our bathrooms are often cluttered with products swamped in pesky plastics, but fret not, because there are so many eco-friendly, zero waste alternatives available.

One simple way to reduce your plastic consumption is by switching to soap bars.

Not only do these wonder products minimise your plastic waste, but because they do not contain as much water as liquid alternatives, they are likely to last longer too – RESULT!

After falling in love with Friendly Soap Ltd.’s Peppermint & Poppy Seeds Soap in the July Edition of the Natural Beauty Box, I simply had to try a few of their other products.

Friendly Soap Ltd. has a substantial list of notable qualities – take a look for yourself below:

  • The Vegan Society Approved
  • Cruelty Free International Approved
  • Best rating with Ethical Consumer
  • Plastic Free
  • Paraben Free
  • Palm Oil Free
  • Cruelty Free
  • SLS Free
  • Sulphate Free
  • Triclosan Free
  • Phthalates Free

I had the pleasure of taking four of their products on my latest three week trip to South Africa.

What did I think?

Well, keep scrolling to find out.

Friendly Soap Shampoo BarLavender & Tea Tree Shampoo Bar – £2.62

  • Castor Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Olive Oil
  • Lavender & Tea Tree Essential Oils
  • Water

This shampoo bar creates a deeply conditioning and naturally cleansing lather, thanks to the inclusion of castor oil, which is a natural hair conditioner and scalp treatment.

I can vouch that it is a long-lasting product, with my shampoo bar lasting roughly 4 weeks. Depending on how often you wash your hair – I wash mine everyday – it can last as long as three bottles of liquid shampoo! That’s a MASSIVE saving on plastic.

My only criticism of the shampoo bar is that it took at least three weeks for my hair to adjust to their new oil concentrations – turns out my hair was fairly damaged! BUT if you bear with it, the results are pretty damn good.

Just a quick note on using shampoo bars as a first time user…

You will, almost certainly, go through a similar experience to me.

Adapting to a chemical free lifestyle after being laden with chemicals is certainly challenging for our hair. It can become dry, oily, frizzy, waxy, tangle-y… But it’s only temporary, I promise, and the feeling of going all natural and plastic free is definitely worth the compromise.

Friendly Soap Travel BarTravel Soap – £2.62

  • Coconut Oil
  • Castor Oil
  • Olive Oil
  • Lavender
  • Lemongrass
  • Peppermint & Tea Tree Essential Oil Blend
  • Water

Remarkably, the travel soap lasted for the entirety of my three week trip, with usage at least once a day – sometimes three times!

This travel soap has numerous impressive properties, including being antiseptic, antifungal and containing insect repellent.

It is richly moisturising and has various usages, including shampoo, body & hand soap, shaving soap and deodorant – all helping to minimise the amount of packaging you need to take with you!

Although the scent isn’t as great as other soaps in their range, I would highly recommend Friendly Soap Ltd.’s travel soap for anyone about to embark on a backpacking-style adventure.

Friendly Soap Charcoal DetoxCharcoal Detox Bar – £2.62

  • Coconut Oil
  • Shea Butter
  • Olive Oil
  • Activated Charcoal Powder
  • Rosemary & Lime Essential Oils
  • Water

Activated charcoal is a hot ingredient right now, with many brands jumping on the bandwagon.

The activated charcoal is toxin absorbing and the lime essential oil has many notable properties, including being antiseptic, antiviral and an antioxidant.

My skin, honestly, felt so much smoother and softer after just one usage of this wonder detox bar. It’s been heavenly coming home to this delight after a hard day in the office or a tough workout at the gym.

Overall Verdict

I would happily recommend Friendly Soap Ltd. as a superb alternative to plastic-packaged soaps.

What’s even better is that this company has such great ethics and values.

As someone who thinks its integral consumers support brands who support our planet, I cannot recommend Friendly Soap Ltd. highly enough on this one.

You can relax with your little piece of luxury safe in the knowledge that no harm will come to our earth.

My best advice would be to not leave any of these products in the stream of water if you want them to last a considerable amount of time.

Long story short – I left the lemongrass & hemp bath soap in the bottom of my shower when I first started using it and it disappeared very quickly. With the other products, I removed them after I’d finished in the shower and they’ve lasted much longer.

Another noteworthy thing to bare in mind is that these soaps are extremely cost-effective.

Not only do they not cost the earth, but they don’t cost a fortune either.

Whether you buy individuals, or the complete collectionFriendly Soap Ltd. will make an excellent addition to your eco-beauty regime.

My Go-To – Lemongrass & Hemp Bath Soap

Hands down this is my favourite soap of the four. The lemongrass & hemp bath soap gets my special recommendation due to its invigorating qualities – as I’ve said before, it’s the perfect way to wake-up in the morning!!

Not only that, but I also love how the hemp seeds act as a natural exfoliant. For me, this is an essential component of a soap bar – don’t you just love how smooth your skin feels afterwards?
